About South East Simon Community

Since 2004 South East Simon Community has been providing services to people experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness throughout the South East Region.

In 2008 we worked with 95 men. 128 women and 214 children who needed our services. We're starting to deliver services to people and families who are now facing homelessness due to repossession.

Every month we are supporting an average of

  • 78 people a week through food distribution in Waterford
  • 67 people a week through supported advocacy throughout the region
  • Rough sleeper support as needed throughout the region
  • 6 people through Tenancy Support Work in Waterford and South Kilkenny
  • 32 families a month in South Tipperary
  • 23 units of supported housing throughout the region

We are involved in those homeless fora which are meeting throughout the region working to change local and national government policy so homelessness stays on the agenda and real solutions are found. We sit on the South East Regional Homeless Forum

We've reduced our running costs to €320,000 each year. Just over 70% of our funding comes from public and corporate donations and sponsorships. We are working diligently to close this gap

  • Supported Advocacy – helping people understand their housing and tenancy entitlements and to help them access these rights through the system
  • Outreach – the provision of services to rough sleepers and people out of home
  • Re-settlement – securing appropriate accommodation options for people in emergency accommodation and helping them re-integrate into the community
  • Tenancy Support – providing a range of practicable supports to help make a house a comfortable and secure home for life
  • Supported Housing – SESC owns a small number of flats & houses across the region which we use when we cannot access housing through any other source
  • Food Distribution - public donations of non perishable foods makes this possible as a pilot scheme in Waterford City with a roll out planned for Clonmel and New Ross in August. Done Deal's corporate support of our work is making this possible. Thank you Fred, Ger and team.

  • Partnership– we embrace and welcome working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the optimum benefit for all our service participants.
  • Service User Participation– we recognise, respect and hold close that the participation of those who avail of our services is as necessary as those who deliver it.
  • Acceptance– we value, respect and treat with dignity each individual as we ourselves would wish, and are entitled to be valued, respected and treated with dignity.
